Locating a Museum's Role
"Locating a Museum's Role" was my senior capstone project for Museum Studies which was accompanied by a 16 page thesis paper and a public presentation. For my project I developed, "The Museum's Role Locator", an educational exercise to locate a museum's role on a range from temple to forum. The aim of this project is to make museum theory more accessible and engaging. As museums are influential in shaping ideology, I believe it is crucial that the public is able to understand the potential roles museums can serve in order to advocate for the community needs of a museum.
This project was informed by an independent research project funded by the Keller Family Venture Grant and CC's Department of Art. The independent research was a series of case studies of museums in the UK and Ireland using Margaret Lindauer's "The Critical Museum Visitor" theories.
